Leixlip (Confey) train station
Western Commuter · Léim an Bhradáin (Confaí) · Co. Kildare
About Leixlip (Confey)
Leixlip Confey began on 2 July 1990 in the most modest way possible: a single platform with a portable cabin for an office, opened the same day as Broombridge, Castleknock and Coolmine as the Western Commuter service spread westwards. A major upgrade of the line in the early 2000s turned it into a proper station.
It serves the northern end of Leixlip, at the Captain’s Hill end of the town on the R149, while Leixlip (Louisa Bridge) covers the western side — two stations for one civil parish, both on the same route to Dublin. There are around forty paid parking spaces, two ticket machines and step-free access. The Irish name is Léim an Bhradáin (Confaí), and the approach is a little fiddly: from the village you pass the shopping centre and library, climb Captain’s Hill, and turn left at the traffic lights before the single-lane bridge.

What is near Leixlip (Confey)
The station sits north of Leixlip village on Captain’s Hill, among housing rather than shops. Leixlip Public Library is about 230 m away and the Riverforest Shopping Centre roughly 360 m, which covers most day-to-day errands without going into the village itself. The Royal Canal and the railway run together below the hill, and bus stops a few hundred metres off link the station to the rest of the town and to Maynooth.

Frequently asked questions
Very basic. It opened on 2 July 1990 as a halt with a single platform and a portable cabin serving as the office. It stayed that way for over a decade and was only rebuilt during the major upgrade of the Western Commuter line in the early 2000s.
The northern side. The station is at the Captain’s Hill end of the town, on the R149, away from the centre. The other station, Leixlip Louisa Bridge, lies west of the town centre on the R148, so between them they cover the civil parish from two directions.
