Leixlip (Louisa Bridge) train station
Western Commuter · Léim an Bhradáin (Droichead Louisa) · Co. Kildare
About Leixlip (Louisa Bridge)
When it opened on 1 September 1848 this was Louisa Bridge & Leixlip; from 1851 it was simply Leixlip, and it kept that plain name until a second station for the town arrived in 1990 and both had to be distinguished. It is one of the few places on the Iarnród Éireann network where the station building stands directly over the platforms, on the bridge itself — a layout it shares with Dún Laoghaire.
The Western Commuter upgrade of the early 2000s gave it a second platform and rebuilt it to be accessible. Two earlier buildings survive. The original station house is now a private dwelling, and the concrete block building put up for the 1980s reopening of the commuter line still stands beside the platforms, out of use — the last of its type anywhere on the route. The station is west of the town centre on the R148, five minutes from the Intel campus, and its Irish name is Léim an Bhradáin (Droichead Louisa).

What is near Leixlip (Louisa Bridge)
This is the western of Leixlip’s two stations, out on the R148 beyond the town centre and close to the industrial campuses that draw a large share of its passengers — Intel is about five minutes away. The Leixlip Spa, the old bath house, is roughly 190 m from the platforms. The Royal Canal and the Rye Water valley are nearby, and the car park across the road means a good number of people drive the last stretch from the surrounding villages.

Frequently asked questions
This one was plain Leixlip from 1851 onwards. When a second station opened at the Confey end of the town in 1990, both needed distinguishing: this one took back its original qualifier, Louisa Bridge, and the newer one became Leixlip Confey.
It is the station building erected for the 1980s reopening of the Western Commuter line. It was superseded in the upgrade of the early 2000s and is no longer used, but it has not been demolished, and it is the only building of that 1980s style left anywhere on the line.
