Trams reverse at Tallaght over a double crossover laid immediately beyond the platforms, so one platform is used for arrivals and the other for departures and nothing has to shunt through the stop. There are two edge platforms, and leaving them towards the city the line rounds a corner on its own right of way where the track passes between buildings that straddle it on both sides.

The stop opened in 2004 as the end of the Red Line, which it still is for the Tallaght branch, and it faces The Square across the road in the middle of the suburb it is named after — Tamhlacht in Irish. Besides the shopping centre it serves Tallaght Stadium, the offices of South Dublin County Council and the local campus of the Technological University Dublin. There is a car park and cycle parking at the stop, and the branch to Saggart leaves the line some way back at Belgard.

Frequently asked questions

They use a double crossover just beyond the platforms. Arriving trams come in on one platform, cross over behind the stop and go back out from the other, which keeps arrivals and departures on separate faces.

Leaving the stop, the trams follow their own right of way round a corner, and on that curve the tracks are straddled by buildings on either side before the line turns north. It is a short enclosed stretch that is unusual on the Red Line.

Tallaght is a Luas tram stop on the Luas Red Line. Dublin has no metro and no underground railway: the Luas runs on the street. The nearest railway stations are a separate walk.
On a Monday to Thursday the first departure from Tallaght is about 05:30 and the last about 00:18, depending on line and direction. Saturday and Sunday start later. Nothing in Dublin runs through the night. The table above gives every line and direction separately.
