Fortunestown serves the shopping end of Citywest. The platforms are on reserved track beside Citywest Drive, a street away from Citywest Campus, and the nearest thing to them is the Citywest Shopping Centre, which is the reason most passengers get off here. Its Irish name is Baile Uí Fhoirtcheirn.

It opened in 2011 as one of the five stops on the Red Line’s branch to Saggart, in a district of hotel, golf course, shops and housing that was largely built at the same period as the tramway itself. There is cycle parking at the stop, and the nearest bus stop is a short walk away on the same road.

What is near Fortunestown

Citywest Neighbourhood Park, about 240 m from the platforms, is the only mapped landmark within 400 m, and the stop’s real catchment is the shopping centre and the housing estates laid out along Citywest Drive. The streets here were planned around the tram line, so walking distances from the platforms to the front doors are short, and the stop is used as much for shopping trips as for commuting.
