Phibsborough is the one Luas stop with no ticket machines on its platforms. The cutting it stands in is too narrow to fit them: the platforms are squeezed between steep stone-faced walls and are noticeably slimmer than elsewhere on the network, carrying only shelters, benches, information displays and Leap Card validators, with the machines placed at entrance level instead.

That cutting once carried heavy rail trains into Dublin Broadstone and then lay disused for many years before Luas Cross City reopened it; the stop opened on the extension in 2017. It lies between Cabra Road and the North Circular Road, both of which cross the line on bridges, and there is an entrance at each end, taking passengers from the bridges onto wooden walkways over the tracks, with a wooden staircase facing each entrance and a glass lift shaft opposite. Dalymount Park is the destination that fills the platforms on match days.

What is near Phibsborough

The stop is the one for Phibsborough itself and for football at Dalymount Park, about 300 m from the platforms. St Peter’s church stands roughly 160 m away, with Great Western Square Park at about 190 m and the Serenity Community Garden at 280 m. The neighbourhood above the cutting is dense inner-suburban Dublin 7, and because the stop is below street level every approach to it is over one of the two road bridges at either end.

Frequently asked questions

There is no room for them. The cutting here is very narrow and the platforms are much slimmer than at other Luas stops, so the machines are at the entrance level instead, by the walkways over the tracks. Phibsborough is the only stop on the network where that is the case.

For heavy rail. It was the approach to Dublin Broadstone railway station, and it lay disused for many years after the trains stopped before Luas Cross City laid tram tracks along it and opened this stop in 2017.

Phibsborough is a Luas tram stop on the Luas Green Line. Dublin has no metro and no underground railway: the Luas runs on the street. The nearest railway stations are a separate walk.
On a Monday to Thursday the first departure from Phibsborough is about 05:35 and the last about 00:58, depending on line and direction. Saturday and Sunday start later. Nothing in Dublin runs through the night. The table above gives every line and direction separately.
TFI Zone 1. Inside Zone 1 a Leap Card journey is the flat TFI 90 Minute Fare, with daily and weekly caps that cover Luas, DART, commuter rail and Dublin city buses together. See the Leap Card guide.
