O’Connell – Upper is the third of the Green Line’s city-centre stops to open with Luas Cross City in 2017, the extension that carried the line from St Stephen’s Green through to Broombridge. It stands at the top of O’Connell Street and is the call for the Savoy Cinema and the northern end of the street.

Like its neighbours on this section it has a single platform, set on the east side of the tracks within the central reservation, and it takes trams travelling north only. What makes it worth noticing is what lies immediately beyond: a junction where the line divides. Trams either bear left, rejoining the southbound track and continuing to Broombridge, or bear right for Parnell, which is why some services from here finish a few minutes later and others run the full length of the line. The previous call coming up the street is O’Connell – GPO.
