Marlborough takes Green Line trams in one direction only. It is half of a one-way pair through the city centre: trams running the other way call instead at O’Connell – GPO, about 150 m away around the corner, and the two stops together do the job that a single island stop does elsewhere on the line.

The platform is a single one on the eastern side of the track, set into the pavement of Marlborough Street just north of the Abbey Street junction, and the stop opened in 2017 with Luas Cross City. It also forms part of the interchange with the Red Line: Abbey Street is about 80 m away, a walk Iarnród Éireann puts at three minutes, and signs on the platforms point between the two. Saint Mary’s Cathedral stands a short way up the street.
