Kilmacud — Cill Mochuda — came with the first phase of the Green Line in 2004 and serves the suburb of the same name. It stands at the junction of Benildus Avenue and Drummartin Link Road, in a broad cutting between the avenue and the grounds of St Benildus College, which means both platforms sit below the level of everything around them.

There are entrances on each side. From the northbound platform a staircase and lift rise to Benildus Avenue, then a short bridge crosses the edge of the cutting to a gap in the retaining wall; from the southbound platform the same arrangement leads to a footpath through the college grounds that comes out eventually on Drummartin Link Road. A separate footbridge crosses the tracks higher up for people who want to get from one side to the other without going near the platforms at all. At the road junction the stop is identified by a solar-powered totem of the same design as the one at Carrickmines. Stillorgan is the next call south.

What is near Kilmacud

Nothing is recorded within 400 m of the platforms, which fits a stop set in a cutting between an avenue and a school’s playing fields. Within about a kilometre there is rather more: Imaginosity and the Beacon Hospital both around 780 m, Ballawley Park at roughly 850 m and the Irish Management Institute at about 930 m. For passengers, though, the immediate catchment is the housing on Benildus Avenue and the college on the other side of the tracks.

Frequently asked questions

It carries a public route across the cutting. The tracks separate Benildus Avenue from the college grounds, so the bridge lets people cross from one side to the other without using the stop. Passengers use the staircases and lifts at each end of the platforms instead.

A solar-powered marker that identifies the stop from street level, needed because the platforms are down in the cutting and invisible from the junction. The same design is used at Carrickmines, further out on the line.
