Dawson was the first stop built on Luas Cross City, the 2017 extension that carried the Green Line north from St. Stephen’s Green through the city centre and on to Broombridge. Its side platforms are set into the pavement of Dawson Street, and from here northwards the line splits into the pair of one-way streets that take trams in opposite directions through the centre.

It is the stop for a remarkable amount of official and civic Dublin within a few hundred metres: Leinster House on Kildare Street, the Mansion House, the National Library of Ireland, St Ann’s Church, the Kerlin Gallery and the Arts Block entrance to Trinity College, as well as the Grafton Street shopping district. Dublin Pearse, the nearest railway station, is about 670 m away, which this site reckons at a seven-minute walk; the Irish name of the stop is Dásain.
