Coolmine was inaugurated on 2 July 1990, one of four stations opened on the Western Commuter line that same day along with Broombridge, Castleknock and Leixlip Confey. Like the other three it started life with a portacabin for a booking office, which was replaced by a permanent building in the upgrade of 2000; the platforms were lengthened at the same time.

It stands just off the Coolmine Road beside the level crossing, in Carpenterstown, and a large car park next to the platforms has made it one of the better-used driving-in points on this side of the city. Both branches of the line call: the Maynooth trains for Dublin Connolly and the peak-hour services between Docklands and M3 Parkway. The Irish name is Cúil Mhín.

What is near Coolmine

Carpenterstown and Coolmine are the immediate catchment, with the level crossing on the Coolmine Road right beside the station and the Blanchardstown area a short distance north. Within about a kilometre is Castleknock Community College, roughly 630 m away. The Royal Canal runs parallel to the railway here, with its towpath giving a level walking and cycling route to the neighbouring stations, and the large car park beside the platforms draws traffic from a good deal further out than walking distance.

Frequently asked questions

Three others on the Western Commuter line: Broombridge, Castleknock and Leixlip Confey. All four were inaugurated on 2 July 1990 as part of the same expansion of commuter services west of the city.

A portacabin. Like the other stations opened in 1990, Coolmine began with a temporary booking office of that kind. It was replaced by a permanent building during the upgrade of 2000, when the platforms were also lengthened.

Coolmine is an Iarnód Éireann railway station, served by Western Commuter. It is not a metro station — Dublin has no metro.
On a Monday to Thursday the first departure from Coolmine is about 05:44 and the last about 23:50, depending on line and direction. Saturday and Sunday start later. Nothing in Dublin runs through the night. The table above gives every line and direction separately.
The NTA publishes its Dublin fare zones only as a sketch map naming a few towns, and this station is not one of them, so we do not state a zone for it. What we can say is how the fares work: see the Leap Card guide and the fares page.
Yes. Charges and opening times are set by the operator and are on its own site.
