Seapoint train station
DART · Rinn na Mara · Dublin
About Seapoint
Seapoint opened on 1 July 1862 under a longer name: Monkstown & Seapoint. It lasted barely a year before being shortened to Seapoint alone, and the Monkstown half of it eventually resurfaced further down the line in the name of Salthill and Monkstown. The Irish name is Rinn na Mara.
The station serves the locality of Seapoint, between Blackrock and Salthill, and it was upgraded and electrified in 1984 when the DART arrived. It is unstaffed, with no booking office, and there are lifts to both platforms. Its most distinctive feature is one of absence: there is no direct public transport to or from the station other than the trains themselves. The nearest bus stops are on Monkstown Road, about 450 m away, so anyone arriving here other than on foot or by bicycle has a walk ahead of them either way.

What is near Seapoint
Two green spaces mark the limits of the walk from the platforms: Temple Park at about 390 m and Belgrave Square at roughly 400 m. Nothing closer is named, which suits a station squeezed between the shoreline and the housing above it. With no bus calling and no car park, the catchment is simply the streets within walking distance, and the coast path alongside is a large part of why people use the station at weekends.
