About Portmarnock
Trains first called at Portmarnock on 25 May 1844, and the layout has stayed modest: two platforms on the Dublin–Belfast line, full ramp access to both, and a car park behind. The Irish name is Stáisiún Phort Mearnóg. Its real value is that it is one of the stations where DART trains and Northern Commuter trains both call, which is not true of most places this far out of the city.
Plenty of other traffic passes without stopping. Enterprise services run through on their way from Dublin Connolly to Drogheda, Dundalk, Newry, Portadown, Lisburn and Belfast Grand Central, and the Sligo and Rosslare Europort trains that start at Connolly use the same tracks. Nobody is on duty here: there is no booking office, and tickets come from the machine or from a Leap card. The address is Station Road, about ten minutes’ walk from Portmarnock itself, which puts more weight than usual on the 274-space car park and the handful of bicycle lockers. Clongriffin is the call towards town.

What is near Portmarnock
Nothing of note is recorded within walking distance of the platforms, and that is an honest description rather than a gap: this is a station on the edge of the built-up area rather than in it. The walk in or out along Station Road, about ten minutes to Portmarnock itself, is how most people reach it; the rest use the car park or the bicycle lockers. The surrounding townland is residential, in the northern part of County Dublin.
Frequently asked questions
Not quite. It stands on Station Road, roughly ten minutes’ walk from Portmarnock itself, which is why the car park is comparatively large for a station of this size — 274 spaces, with a few bicycle lockers as well.
No. Enterprise services from Dublin Connolly pass through on the same tracks without calling, continuing via Drogheda, Dundalk, Newry, Portadown and Lisburn to Belfast Grand Central. The trains that do stop here are the DART and the Northern Commuter services.
