Smithfield Luas stop
Luas Red Line · Margadh na Feirme
About Smithfield
Phoenix Street carries the Red Line along the side of Smithfield plaza, the wide open square that was used as a market long before the trams arrived, and the stop takes its name from it. Like Four Courts a little to the east, it sits on a length of street closed completely to other traffic, with two edge platforms built into the pavement. It opened with the line in 2004.
Smithfield is the stop for the plaza and for what stands around it — the Old Jameson Distillery and its chimney, and the Light House Cinema off the square — as well as for the streets of the north-west inner city behind. Trams run from here east towards Four Courts and west towards Museum and the Liffey crossing to Heuston. The Irish name is Margadh na Feirme.
