The name comes from Fatima Mansions, the public housing complex the stop was built beside when the Red Line opened in 2004. It sits at the southern side of St. James’s Hospital, alongside James’s Walk, with two edge platforms of the usual Luas design.

West of the stop the trams follow the alignment of an abandoned canal towards Tallaght and Saggart; east of it they swing through the grounds of the hospital towards the city centre. Besides the flats and the hospital, Fatima is the tram stop for Dolphin’s Barn, The Coombe and the northern edge of the Liberties, a part of Dublin that the Red Line serves without ever running through its main streets. Trams run on to Rialto in one direction and James’s in the other.

What is near Fatima

The stop sits in a corner of inner south-west Dublin between hospital grounds and housing. James’s Walk, the green strip the line follows, starts about 100 m from the platforms, and Flanagan’s Fields Community Garden is roughly 200 m away. St. James’s Hospital is about 300 m to the north and the John Stearne Medical Library some 380 m. Most people getting off here are walking on into Dolphin’s Barn, The Coombe or the Liberties rather than stopping at anything immediately beside the stop.

Frequently asked questions

From Fatima Mansions, the public housing complex next to which the stop was built. The Luas stop was named for its proximity to the flats when the Red Line opened in 2004.

It is the course of an abandoned canal. The Red Line was laid along the disused channel, which is why the track runs so straight and so level between here and the stops further west.

Fatima is a Luas tram stop on the Luas Red Line. Dublin has no metro and no underground railway: the Luas runs on the street. The nearest railway stations are a separate walk.
On a Monday to Thursday the first departure from Fatima is about 05:43 and the last about 00:51, depending on line and direction. Saturday and Sunday start later. Nothing in Dublin runs through the night. The table above gives every line and direction separately.
