Lansdowne Road train station
DART and South Eastern Commuter · Bóthar Lansdún · Dublin
About Lansdowne Road
Lansdowne Road opened in 1872 and has spent its whole life next to a stadium. The original Lansdowne Road ground stood beside it until it was demolished in 2007 and replaced on the same site by the Aviva Stadium, which the station now serves; on match days extra access points are opened to keep the crowds moving. It was electrified in 1983 with the arrival of the DART, and the Irish name is Bóthar Lansdún.
The layout is shaped by a level crossing. Because the crossing on Lansdowne Road sits immediately beside the station, each of the two through platforms has its own separate entrance, with two ticket machines at each, and the pair are linked by an underpass; there is disability access to both. Platform 1 takes the northbound trains, platform 2 the southbound. Every DART calls here, as do several South Eastern Commuter services between Dublin Connolly and Gorey and a number of trains to Drogheda, Dundalk and Maynooth, which gives a small station a surprisingly varied set of callers. It serves Ballsbridge, Irishtown and Upper Baggot Street. Grand Canal Dock lies towards the city and Sandymount the other way.

The Institute of Public Administration is closer still at roughly 70 m, with Marian College about 230 m away and New Bridge some 240 m. Otherwise this is Dublin 4 at its quietest: the station has no car park and no bicycle parking, and the walk-in catchment of Ballsbridge, Irishtown and Upper Baggot Street supplies the ordinary weekday traffic.
