Greystones train station
DART and South Eastern Commuter · Na Clocha Liatha · Co. Wicklow
About Greystones
The Dublin, Wicklow and Wexford Railway opened this station on 30 October 1855 under the name Greystones & Delgany, dropping the second half in 1863. For most of its life it was an outpost at the end of the double track from Dublin, and it stayed a diesel station long after the coast north of it had gone electric: work on extending the wires began in 1995, was finished in 1999, and the first DART ran through on 10 April 2000.
It is now the southern end of the DART network and the point where that service hands over to the longer-distance trains for Wicklow, Arklow and Rosslare. There are two platforms with a footbridge between them and sidings to the east; platform 2 comes into use only a handful of times a day, when a DART and an InterCity service happen to be in the station together. The building, which can only be entered from Church Road, holds a café, a ticket office and machines. The Irish name is Na Clocha Liatha.

What is near Greystones
Church Road puts you in the middle of Greystones rather than on its edge: the library is about 70 m from the door, Burnaby Park about 100 m, and the Whale Theatre roughly 220 m. The Blue Flag beach is a five-minute walk, and the cliff path north to Bray (Daly) begins near the harbour. That combination — a town centre station with a beach and a long coastal walk attached — gives the place a steady weekend trade on top of the commuters.

Frequently asked questions
That was the name it opened with in 1855, pairing Greystones on the coast with the inland village of Delgany. The Dublin, Wicklow and Wexford Railway shortened it to Greystones in 1863, and it has kept that name ever since.
Most services can be handled from platform 1, beside the station building. Platform 2, reached over the footbridge, is brought into use only a few times a day — typically when a DART and an InterCity train need to be in the station at the same moment.
